Is Your Lipstick Poisoning You? - Sophisticated Booty

I’m definitely not the type of girl that puts makeup on everyday, but when I do wear it, I always finish my look with a touch of lipstick. In my book, it’s a must!

Unfortunately, the ingredients in most lipsticks (and makeup) aren’t so great for you.

Studies show that many lipsticks contain toxic metals in them. These include such metals as cadmium, aluminum, and lead.

Some people argue that there’s no harm in the presence of these toxic substances because they’re found in such small quantities. Personally, I disagree with that entirely!

Why is any amount of toxicity allowed to be in your lipstick? I think it’s wrong, and poses a threat on our health.

Heavy metals, like those found in lipsticks, accumulate in our bodies over time. So, just because you don’t notice the ill effects immediately, doesn’t mean they’re safe (or that they’re not causing you any harm).

By the way, lipstick isn’t the only way we introduce heavy metals into our bodies. It’s just one of the many, countless ways.

We’re constantly being exposed to environmental pollutants; they’re present in our air, water, food, etc. And, many of which are in the form of heavy metals.

Reduce Your Exposure to Environmental Toxins

While it may be difficult and even impossible to avoid toxic exposure in some areas of our lives, we do have a say in the level of toxicity we expose ourselves to in our personal environment (our homes, the personal care products we use, the quality of food we eat, etc.).

We can significantly reduce our toxic exposure by optimizing our lifestyle. We are fortunate because we have many options available to us. So, by making wiser decisions, and being more conscious about things, we can improve the quality of our personal environment (and in turn, support a healthier lifestyle).

Throwing out your toxic lipstick (and other makeup products), and upgrading to organic and/or natural, non-toxic, chemical free options is one area you can change today, right now.

  • Why I Like Keeki’s Shimmer Sticks?
  • Free of heavy metals.
  • No parabens.
  • No phthalates.
  • No petroleum.
  • Non-toxic.
  • Made with organic ingredients.
  • Adds a beautiful touch of shimmer to my lips.
  • Smell delicious … good enough to eat!
  • Keeps my lips hydrated and soft.
  • Lightweight – I forget I’m even wearing anything on my lips.

What I Use Instead of Lipstick

I really like these Shimmer Sticks by Keeki Pure & Simple. I’ve used Sassy and Ooh La La, and am impressed with this product. I’ll definitely be ordering more … probably get them all!

I think these shimmer sticks are great for an everyday natural sort of look. If you want something that adds more color to your lips, I’d suggest Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmer  or Tinted Lip Balms.

Burt’s Bees doesn’t contain parabens, phthalates, or petroleum. They’re made with all natural ingredients, but in my opinion some of the ingredients are questionable. Regardless, I think, it’s better than using toxic lipsticks!

Best of Health,

Shahné

Do you know of some other organic and/or natural lipstick options? I’d love to know.
