Over the years I’ve come to realize just how important it is to keep my body well hydrated. Putting the proper liquids into our body is absolutely essential to our overall health and well-being. And, it does make sense if you think about it.

Why?

Because the human body is made up of about 70 percent water! I don’t know about you, but this in itself tells me that staying hydrated is necessary for a healthy functioning body.

  • Benefits of Lemon

Start Your Day Hydrated

One of the best things you can do when you wake up in the morning is to hydrate your body with fluids. Not just by drinking water (which is great), but by drinking lemon water with MSM.

Drinking a glass of lemon water is a great way to start the morning, but we’re going to take it up a notch with the addition of MSM powder. This is a simple way to make your ordinary lemon water even better!

But first …

Benefits of MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane)

Sulfur is one of the most abundant minerals in the body and is essential for life. It’s required for proper functioning of the body. Sulfur is present in all of our cells and is necessary for cell development, repair, and functionality.

Methylsulfonylmethane or MSM, is a dietary form of sulfur that is easily assimilated by the body.

Benefits of MSM Include:

Supports healthy joints and cartilage

Strengthens connective tissue

Repairs damaged tissue

Increases the availability of vitamin C

Provides relief from arthritic pain, stiffness, and inflammation

Enhances glutathione levels. Glutathione is a powerful antioxidant; sometimes referred to as, “the master of all antioxidants.” It’s present within all cells of our body, and plays a key role in a strong immune system, and keeping the body youthful.

Strengthens hair, skin, and nails

Getting Sulfur in Your Diet

Sulfur is found in cruciferous vegetables like cabbage, kale, radishes, and Brussels sprouts as well as spicy foods like hot peppers, ginger, and onions.

While it’s important to include sulfur rich foods into your diet, you may also want to consider taking a dietary supplement. Due to unsustainable agricultural farming methods most of our soil is sulfur deficient, which means our foods don’t necessarily provide the best source of sulfur.

MSM powder is a great way to supply your body with the adequate amount of sulfur required for optimal health. And adding it to your lemon water is the perfect way to take it.

Note: Opt for organic, plant-based brands that are not derived from petroleum. I’ve been using Ojio MSM Powder for about two years now, and highly recommend this product. My Mom has also been really happy with this brand of MSM (other brands have actually caused pain in her joints). Quality is everything! I always buy the 5 lb. bag of MSM, but I would suggest buying the 1 lb. bag at first – just to see how it works with your body.

Recipe: How to Make MSM Lemon Water

Get Hydrated Boost Your Immune System and Support Healthy Joints - Sophisticated Booty

Ingredients:

  • ½ – 1 lemon, juiced
  • 1 ½ teaspoons MSM powder
  • 1 quart water

Directions:

  • Add all ingredients to a quart sized glass jar. Mix well.
  • Drink up!

My husband and I do this every morning. While MSM Lemon Water may not be the best tasting, it really is the perfect way to get hydrated and get going in the morning, and get your daily dose of sulfur!

Note: You can also use fresh lime juice if you prefer limes over lemons, or just want to switch things up. Lemons and limes provide very similar health benefits.

I hope you found this post helpful.
